Coordinators: Manuela Boscolo, Fabrizio Palla

Mandate:

The Machine Detector Interface Work Package coordinates the integration of the detector and the accelerator, thus determining the ‘interaction’ between the two systems, through the respective constraints and requirements. This Work Package has direct connections with both accelerator and detector design groups, as well as physics perfomance, software, technology R&D, and civil engineering.

Significant progress was achieved during the Feasibility Study, the goal of the pre-TDR phase is now to converge on a robust and feasible design. As detector concepts and accelerator design continue to evolve, the MDI will need to adapt.

Organisation:

Mailing lists, e-groups and guidelines on how to use them are given at the bottom of the ORGANISATION page.

Meetings: https://indico.cern.ch/category/5665/

Main topics are:

  • IR magnets
  • MDI vacuum-related elements/systems
  • General integration
  • MDI instrumentation
  • Alignment tolerances and vibration control
  • Beam-induced Backgrounds, beam loss, and radiation
  • Final Focus optics and collision optimisation
  • Heat load assessment
  • IR mockup
  • HTS QC1 prototype
  • MDI alignment mockup
